Job description
SWEETS hotel is a one-of-a-kind hotel located across Amsterdam in 28 different bridge houses. Each bridge house has been designed into a tiny 1-bedroom hotel suite that accommodates 2 people. To complete our young and enthusiastic team, we are looking for an independent housekeeper who likes to cruise around the city on our supersonic electrical cargo bike.  Your working day starts at our atelier/working space, located at Veemarkt - a 15-minute bus or bike ride from Amsterdam Central Station. There, you load the spacious electrical cargo bike with part of the housekeeping equipment - the rest is already stationed at the bridge houses. You head out to visit multiple bridge houses throughout Amsterdam to clean them and, occasionally, help our guests if they have questions. While spotlessly cleaning the bridge houses, you are also inspecting equipment for safety and sanitary conditions, monitoring state of furniture, and reporting need for replacement/repair to your colleagues. Once you have returned to the office, you do a quick check-up on the inventory of materials/linen and order as needed. As part of the housekeeping team, you are not only responsible for making the bridge houses look stunning and ready for adventurous guests; you are also an important link between our management team, our guests and our hotel rooms!

SWEETS hotel is a one-of-a-kind hotel located across Amsterdam in 28 different bridge houses. Each bridge house has been designed into a tiny 1-bedroom hotel suite that accommodates 2 people.

For 100 years Amsterdam's bridge houses accommodated the city's many bridge keepers who were responsible for opening these impressive structures for passing boat traffic.  However, with the introduction of an automated and centralised bridge control system the bridge houses were at risk of becoming redundant.

In 2012 the initiators of SWEETS hotel presented a plan to the city of Amsterdam to transform the city's bridge houses into tiny hotel suites. The vision: to introduce travellers to new neighbourhoods and unexpected experiences in the city. In the summer of 2013 SWEETS was presented at the Amsterdam Architecture Centre (ARCAM) as part of an acclaimed exhibition alongside a popular architectural guidebook.

SWEETS hotel is an initiative and co-creation of the Amsterdam based architecture office Space & Matter (known for among others for transforming a polluted plot of land into an eco-space for creative and social enterprises ‘De Ceuvel' in Amsterdam), project development partner Grayfield, and the founders of the Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy (the world's first 1 to 5 star hotel and a cultural hub), Suzanne Oxenaar, Otto Nan and Gerrit Groen.
